Google Is Putting More Links Back in AI Answers - Here Is How to Earn the Clicks (October 21, 2026)

Sent to 33 subscribers
What Google Changed

Google announced on October 15, 2026 that source links will appear more often and higher up inside AI Overviews and AI Mode. Google is also expanding the article carousel that sits below AI Overviews worldwide, and making the links at the end of AI summaries larger and easier to spot. For small businesses, more visible links mean real traffic is back on the table if your pages give AI systems something worth citing.

Why Original Content Wins the Citation

Ahrefs data comparing March and September responses found ChatGPT now leans on original research, government sources, and firsthand testing, while summary-style sites lost ground. Pages that repeat what everyone else already published rarely earn a citation. Pages built on your own numbers, photos, and field experience do.

Three Fixes You Can Make Today

- Add one page of first-hand data to your site: your pricing ranges, a real project timeline, or a service-area map with travel times.
- Put a direct answer in the first two sentences of each service page, then support the answer with specifics.
- Confirm your Google Business Profile hours, services, and address match your website exactly, since AI answers pull from both.

Your Next Step

Open your three top-selling service pages and rewrite the opening two sentences so each one answers the customer question directly, using a detail only your business can supply.

Reply to this email with the page address and your question if you want a second set of eyes, or book the free 60-minute phone or Zoom consultation at https://appwt.com/schedule, which covers a look at your current website and online presence, your goals, and a written action plan with next steps sent afterward.

Time-Saver Habit

Hanna Larsson's list of 10 ways to respect people's time starts with a simple rule: when a written note can settle the matter, write the note. Send your vendor or team the decision in two lines and keep the calendar clear for work that truly needs a conversation.
