I show how to turn a short brief into a review-ready email draft with AI. You get clear steps, guardrails, and a final checklist to keep quality and compliance.
AI-assisted email draft setup means turning a short brief into a review-ready email using an AI assistant and firm guardrails. Here is the brief-to-draft flow I use so you can review it fast.
Prepare a clear brief
- Define one audience and one goal for the email.
- Write the core message or offer in one sentence.
- List three key facts and where they come from so you can verify them.
- Set tone, length, and voice do and do not rules.
- Add compliance notes and banned claims to avoid.
- State the call to action, primary link, and a subject line angle to explore.
Generate a safe first draft
- Paste the brief and tell the assistant to use only the brief, not outside facts.
- Ask for three subject line options and a short preview text that matches the goal.
- Require it to bracket any guesses or missing items so you can fix them.
- Request plain language for an eighth to tenth grade reading level and short paragraphs.
- Ask for a short version and a longer version so you can fit different templates.
- Have it list any risky lines it sees based on your compliance notes.
Review and fix by a human
- Check every claim against your source material and remove any bracketed guesses.
- Rewrite anything off brand or pushy so it sounds like you.
- Verify names, numbers, and dates, and confirm the call to action is clear.
- Keep personal data out of the email and the prompts. Do not include customer details.
- Read it aloud for clarity and flow, then save a quick changelog for next time.
Load and stage in your email platform
- Paste the approved copy into your template and add the real links.
- Send tests to at least two inboxes and one mobile device, and check the plain text.
- Confirm images have alt text and that it works without images turned on.
- Do not schedule the send yet. Keep it as a draft until approvals are recorded.
What to check before sending
- The from name looks familiar and the reply to address works.
- Subject and preview text fit the goal and avoid clickbait.
- All links go to the right page and any tracking tags you use are correct.
- The unsubscribe link and mailing address are present per email laws in your area. Confirm specifics with your attorney or compliance advisor.
- You have permission to email this list segment and no sensitive data is exposed.
- A person gives final approval. No auto send from the assistant.
