About Chicago, Cook County
Rising on the shore of Lake Michigan, Chicago is the largest city in the American Midwest and the birthplace of the modern skyscraper. History of Chicago
- The name derives from a Native American (Miami-Illinois) word, shikaakwa, referring to the wild onion or garlic that grew along the river.
