Farmington is a compact, walkable Detroit suburb of about 11,600 people built around a genuinely historic downtown of Victorian homes and a restored 1930s movie theater. Founded by New York Quakers in the 1820s and completely encircled today by the much larger Farmington Hills, it trades on deep roots, a landmark governor's mansion, and one of Michigan's longest-running summer festivals.
