About Ferndale, Michigan

Ferndale is a compact, walkable Detroit suburb in southern Oakland County, sitting just north of Detroit at Nine Mile Road and Woodward Avenue. Once a working-class bedroom community for auto workers, it reinvented itself in the 1990s and 2000s into one of Metro Detroit's most progressive, arts-driven and LGBTQ-friendly downtowns. It is known for its independent restaurants, music venues, pride festival and the northern terminus of the Woodward Dream Cruise.

History of Ferndale

• Grew rapidly as a bedroom community after the automobile boom and the nearby Ford plant in Highland Park
• Incorporated as a village in 1918 and as a city on April 4, 1927
