About Commerce Township, Michigan
Commerce Township spreads across nearly 30 square miles of western Oakland County about 34 miles northwest of downtown Detroit, and roughly 8% of it is water. It started as a lake resort destination and became a permanent suburb of 43,000 without losing the lakes, the Huron River, or most of Proud Lake State Recreation Area. It is also, improbably, the place where a teenage Eagle Scout built a neutron source in a backyard shed and got the property declared an EPA Superfund cleanup site.

- The community of Commerce Village, at Commerce and Sleeth Roads, was platted in 1836.
