We Know Riverview
Former University of Michigan Head Football Coach Lloyd Carr is from Riverview. Riverview Highlands features 27 holes of championship golf. Summerfest at Young Patriot's Park includes food, fireworks, and a fishing derby.
The Battle of Monguagon was fought here on August 9, 1812, and the Shawnee leader Tecumseh was wounded in it; much of the battlefield is still open ground. Riverview grew out of Monguagon Township, incorporated as a village in 1923 and became a city in 1959, and it covers about 4.6 square miles of land. The city owns and runs its own landfill, the Riverview Land Preserve, where gas captured on site makes electricity for about 3,700 homes. The 27-hole Riverview Highlands course is built on that property.
