Southgate Tower Landmark
The Southgate Tower (Security Bank Building) has been a landmark since 1973, sitting where Wonderland Amusement Park once stood. It's the tallest building between Detroit and Toledo, famous for its Christmas tree formed by green and gold lights.

Pierre Michel Campau became the first European settler in 1795, farming land in what was then Ecorse Township. Street grids were platted in the 1920s, but most homes went up after World War II. Southgate became a city on October 8, 1958, from one of the last pieces of Ecorse Township, and first mayor Thomas J. Anderson tied the name to the planned Southgate Shopping Center at Eureka and Trenton roads. The city covers about 6.9 square miles, and its park system grew from one 36-acre park in 1949.
